Our history dates back to 1812, with the founding of R. Richmond & Son Brush Company on Bath Street in Sheffield, manufacturing quality brushes during the city’s industrial boom.

The business built a strong reputation for craftsmanship and dependable supply, supporting local forges and factories, including throughout the First World War.

In 1939, as the Second World War began, Laurence Arden Winch acquired the business introducing the recognised name of Arden Winch & Co Ltd.

The company grew under the ownership of Lawrence Arden Winch establishing the foundations of the company known today.

In the 1960’s, his son Richard Winch and the company’s managing director Rob Wetherill expanded the business to provide an additional range of personal protective equipment and janitorial products.

As industries evolved, so did Arden Winch.

Over the years the company quickly became leading providers of workwear and uniform alongside existing offerings, an in-house branding department was also built to meet the changing market demands.

In 2009, Steve Barker became managing director and saw the opportunity for growth within the existing branding department. Extensions were built, machines were purchased and team numbers tripled to create the region’s largest independent in-house branding facility.

2022 marked the beginning of the company’s sustainability developments and carbon neutral journey. The company invested heavily into renewable energy, emission reduction and operational changes. Within just the first two years 26.3 tonnes of CO2 were reduced, the equivalent of a year’s absorption from 1,315 mature trees.

Today our team is spread over two sites in Sheffield and Nottingham serving customers of all sizes nationwide.

The Winch family remains actively involved in the business, continuing over 200 years of trusted expertise, certified products and personal service.
